The New York Giants have signed draft picks Ryan Connelly and Darius Slayton in addition to re-signing defensive lineman John Jenkins.
The New York Giants have made some roster moves. On Monday, Big Blue signed two of their draft picks. They gave contracts to linebacker Ryan Connelly and wide receiver Darius Slayton per Michael Eisen of Giants.com. The Giants also re-signed defensive tackle John Jenkins. Jenkins spent the 2018 season with the Giants.
The Giants drafted Connelly in the fifth round (No. 143 overall) out of the University of Wisconsin. He totaled 89 combined tackles, 10 tackles-for-loss and three sacks for the Badgers through 12 games in 2018. In the previous season, Connelly played in 14 games and had 88 tackles, 11 tackles-for-loss, and three sacks. He’ll be working himself into a Giants pass-rush that includes linebackers Lorenzo Carter, Alec Ogletree, and edge rusher Markus Golden.
The Giants also chose Slayton in the fifth round (No. 171 overall) out of Auburn University. He caught 35 balls for 670 yards and five touchdowns during his redshirt junior year for the Tigers in 2018. Slayton will add an extra weapon for the Giants’ air-attack that includes receivers Sterling Shepard, Golden Tate, and Corey Coleman. Slayton will be one of the reserve players to keep an eye on during training camp and preseason.
Jenkins was drafted in the third round of the 2013 NFL Draft out of the University of Georgia. He previously has spent time with the New Orleans Saints, the Seattle Seahawks, and the Chicago Bears.
Jenkins joined the Giants last season off waivers after he was released by the Bears in September. He only appeared in seven games. He was inactive for the remaining nine regular-season contests.
The Giants have yet to sign their first-round selections, quarterback Daniel Jones, defensive lineman Dexter Lawrence and cornerback DeAndre Baker. They also haven’t signed linebacker Oshane Ximines and cornerback Corey Ballentine.
