Jachai Polite is an incredibly important piece of the New York Jets defense. He can literally complete an entire unit.

On Sunday, Mother’s Day 2019, the Florida product officially became a professional football player.

According to various sources, including Eric Allen of the New York Jets official website, Polite and his employer have agreed to a three-year, $3.6 million deal fit with a $1,122,472 signing bonus, via Over The Cap.

Polite, 21, carries talent possibly warranted as a first or second-rounder in the NFL Draft. Questions surrounding his porous NFL Combine results plagued his stock.

Mike Maccagnan made him the 68th overall selection, the first of two third rounders (Chuma Edoga), fitting like a glove as the EDGE spot, a position still desperately thin. In 2018 over 13 games, Polite collected 11 sacks, 45 total tackles and 19.5 for a loss.

The kid’s 4.84 forty-yard at the combine contrasts to his actual straight-line speed. Many argue he belongs in the elite class of edge rushers coming into the league this summer.

“He was a kid that we thought had a lot of potential and upside and we’re kind of excited to see what he can do,” said general manager Mike Maccagnan after the second day of the draft. “We definitely think he has pass rush ability and potential, so we’re excited to see what he can do as we work with him going forward.”

The secondary storyline surrounding Polite’s first big-boy deal involves his mother, Katrina Williams. The Jets newest edge man hasn’t been shy about using the money on his mother and now, on Mother’s Day, it’s coming together.

“She’s a very hard worker,” Polite said. “She’s been working hard since she was 12, laboring and hard work. I just want to repay her somehow, some way, and hopefully it’s with football.”

Jachai Polite joins Jordan Jenkins, Brandon Copeland, Frankie Luvu and Tarell Bashum at the New York Jets position with all eyes curiously gandering.
