The New York Giants may not have the best relationship with Odell Beckham Jr. but it seems like they’ll keep him around.

Remember when Odell Beckham Jr. signed that massive contract extension for the New York Giants? A full season later, there is already speculation that Beckham will be traded.

Leave it to general manager Dave Gettleman to squash that rumor.

Gettleman stood in front of reporters and stated, “We didn’t sign him to trade him,” as reported by Dan Schneier of CBS Sports.

The response came when he was drilled over rumors that the San Francisco 49ers were planning for a trade for the All-Star wide receiver. The original report came from Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk on Tuesday.

Before the season started, OBJ inked a five-year, $95 million extension to remain with the Giants. Assuming he would play a huge role in 16 games, Beckham only played in 12 for Big Blue, including missing the final four contests of the season.

While the season didn’t pan out quite as the Giants would have wanted, they still were able to say that they had OBJ to rely on for years to come.

While he missed a few games, he excelled in his time on the field. His best performance came in Atlanta, where he exploded for 143 yards on eight receptions and one touchdown.

But could the Giants get something if they so decided to trade with the 49ers? The 49ers have George Kittle but besides that, their receiving core is bare on all sides. That would be a huge pick-up for them.

But the Giants aren’t letting OBJ go. I mean, how can you sign a guy to a massive contract extension and then just as easily trade him away?

The rumors are silly. But, then again, that is essentially the definition of a rumor. Good thing the Giants are not falling for that one.
