NFL Network’s Daniel Jeremiah is currently under consideration for a New York Jets front office role, per Adam Schefter of ESPN.

“Just months after NFLN Draft Analyst Mike Mayock took the Raiders’ GM job, his replacement Daniel Jeremiah is under serious consideration for a prominent front-office position with the NY Jets, per sources. NFLN Draft Analyst job has become breeding ground for front-office jobs.”

It’s an interesting report. Jeremiah, 41, seems to be eager to enter the Mike Mayock model, taking his broadcast/media talents to the NFL front office.

The Oakland Raiders pulled Mayock from the studio by tabbing him as the organization’s next general manager this past offseason.

Most likely, Jeremiah would serve a secondary role to the incoming GM. The early favorite is Joe Douglas whose work helped the Philadephia Eagles to their first Super Bowl two seasons ago.

Head coach Adam Gase, who’s seemingly won the power struggle, is close with Douglas. The general manager rumored name makes sense. Jeremiah may make sense, but he comes with an interesting history.

It was Jeremiah’s words two drafts ago that kickstarted an entire offseason narrative that revolved around tanking. On NFL Network at the draft, he made the statement that the Jets possessed the worst roster in the league.

Later in the offseason, he quoted an unnamed source who labeled the Jets roster the worst in a “decade.”

While some platforms and individuals knew it was a ridiculous narrative, the story carried an entire offseason. A hot start later had Jeremiah apologizing to the Jets in a “good sport” sort of fashion.

Daniel Jeremiah was a scout for the Baltimore Ravens, Cleveland Browns and Philadelphia Eagles prior to joining the NFL Network team in 2012.
