The New York Jets hiring Philadelphia Eagles VP of Player Personnel Joe Douglas is nearly a done deal, according to many.
League sources are claiming Douglas is already reaching out to individuals about joining him in New Jersey.
The Jets general manager job is opened thanks tot he shocking move that hit the NFL world on Wednesday. The Jets fired Mike Maccagnan just a few weeks removed from the NFL Draft.
To allow the personnel decision maker to travel through free agency and then the draft only to fire him is a move that’ll have fandom and media pundits screaming bloody murder, even if it’s the correct move.
Douglas, 36, is by far the hottest name at the moment due to his connection with head coach Adam Gase.
Currently serving as the Philadelphia Eagles VP of Player Personnel, Douglas has been with the Jets neighbors to the west since 2016, helping them to a Super Bowl chip a year later. He earned his stripes with the Baltimore Ravens from 2000-2014.
Both Douglas and Gase worked together in Chicago during the 2015 season. Gase served as the offensive coordinator while Douglas held down the director of college scouting role.
The third cod in the wheel is Daniel Jeremiah, who is rumored to also be jumping aboard in the scouting department. Jeremiah, the NFL Network personality, worked with Douglas in Baltimore from 2003 through 2007.
The pieces fit while it appears the only thing holding it up is going through the process which includes mandatory Rooney Rule interviews.
