New York Yankees: Please get the Sonny Gray stuff finalized

Former Cy Young finalist Sonny Gray was absolutely terrible as a New York Yankee. He gave us nothing. Yet somehow Gray is still on the Yankees roster with a little over a month before pitchers and catchers report for Spring Training.

Kelly's Comments

I am done with Sonny Gray.

I went to bat for him on the internet for far too long. I don’t know how many different ways I can say I want him gone. Brian Cashman said it. Ninety-nine percent of New York Yankees Twitter said it (there’s always at least one person who just wants to have a different take).

I imagine even Sonny Gray has said it himself.

If I was the Yankees, my first objective this offseason would have been to get Gray far, far away from my organization.

Yet somehow he is still on the team.

It’s unfathomable. It’s proven that Gray is completely unable to pitch in New York. Every sign indicates that the New York media has decimated the mental fortitude it takes to pitch on baseball’s biggest stage, a stage that rewards winning above all else. Nobody in New York gives a crap about whether you “thought you had good stuff tonight” if you didn’t ultimately walk away with a victory.

Now, I’m troubled to learn that there’s support growing for the thought that Sonny Gray may actually play a role on the 2019 Yankees as a long man/spot starter and I have just one thing to say about that …

I don’t care.

New York Yankees

I don’t care if Sonny Gray can serve a useful function in a smaller role. I don’t care if he’s an effective arm out of the bullpen. I don’t even care if he turns back the clock and starts pitching like the 2015 Cy Young finalist we thought we were going to be acquiring.

I don’t even care if the return on the inevitable Gray trade is a mildly damaged washing machine and a jumbo pack of Juicy Fruit.

I want Sonny Gray gone and I want these ridiculous rumors that he may not get traded after all quashed. Launch this guy back to the West Coast where nobody pays attention and players can get away with just about anything as long as they show up a couple times a year.

He might even find success in that atmosphere as he’s a talented pitcher he just can’t handle any negative attention. Just get him off the Yankees.
