The New York Mets have reportedly asked around and will consider former New York Yankees manager Joe Girardi.

It’s safe to say New York Mets manager Mickey Callaway is on the hot seat and will remain there until positive results start flowing. Unless they start winning, and a minor miracle occurs before the conclusion of the season hits, Callaway will more than likely be out of New York. It’s that simple.

That being said, the Mets will be on the lookout for a new skipper for next season and beyond. They’re actually considering some names currently, and according to Andy Martino of SNY, the Mets have asked about a familiar name in New York.

It’s former New York Yankees manager Joe Girardi.

“But the team has already begun thinking about candidates, and in some cases proceeding with quiet due diligence. [Mets general manager Brodie] Van Wagenen and others in the organization have, for example, asked around about former Yankees manager Joe Girardi, according to major league sources.

“Friends of Girardi’s say that he is very eager to manage again. The Mets, in turn, are doing their homework but seem reluctant due to Girardi’s reputation.”

The only issue with Girardi, who managed the Yankees from 2008-2017, is his attitude in the press conference room. He’s proved to have much success as a manager, having won the National League Manager of the Year with the then-Florida Marlins in 2006. However, he has problems when it comes to facing the media.

“If you’re looking for someone who will manage a great game for three hours, Girardi will do that,” said one executive, per Martino. “If you’re looking for someone to win the press conference, that will never be Joe.”

The Mets will head into the All-Star Break staring at a record of 40-50. They’re currently in fourth place in the NL East, 13.5 games behind the division-leading Atlanta Braves.
