DJ LeMahieu continues his fantastic season for the New York Yankees.

On Wednesday, it was announced that the Bombers second baseman has won the American League Player of the Month award for the month of June. The leadoff hitter for the Yankees definitely deserves the recognition as well.

Through 77 games this year, LeMahieu, 30, is hitting .341 with 12 home runs and 61 RBIs. Night in and night out, he’s proving his worth in the Yankees lineup and showing how effective of a leadoff hitter he can be.

If LeMahieu keeps consistently playing the way he’s been playing thus far in 2019, he could make a strong case to win the AL Most Valuable Player award.

The last Yankees player to win the league MVP award was third baseman Alex Rodriguez, who won it in 2007 when he hit .314 with 54 home runs and 156 RBIs. He led the league in the latter two statistics.

The Yankees are currently in a great spot. They’re 26 games above .500 at 55-29, leading the AL East division by 6.5 games above the second place-Tampa Bay Rays.

The Bombers finished a two-game series against the New York Mets on Wednesday night. They ultimately defeated the Mets 5-1 at Citi Field to split the series.

The Yanks will now go to Tampa Bay to face the Rays for a four-game series beginning on Thursday night. After that, the All-Star break will begin with the Home Run Derby on Monday, July 8.
