The New York Liberty will bring back their veteran guard, who enjoyed a resurgence after missing most of 2017 with an injury.

The New York Liberty have brought back another one of their free agents, re-signing guard Brittany Boyd. Her signing was confirmed by both the team and head coach Katie Smith on their respective social media accounts.

Boyd, 25, will return for her fifth season with the Liberty. She joined the team, and the WNBA, as the ninth overall pick of the 2015 draft. The Cal product has averaged 6.6 points and 3.7 assists per game over her New York career thus far.

Despite the Liberty’s dismal 7-27 ledger, 2018 was a personal victory for Boyd. Her prior season saw her partake in only two games, suffering an Achilles injury in the very early going. Upon her return, sitting out the first four games of 2018, Boyd became a spark plug off the Liberty bench.

Her 5.3 assists per game were not just a career-best, but good for fourth in the WNBA, tied with Diana Taurasi. In a July 15 win, she tallied a double-double against Chicago with 14 points and 10 rebounds.

Boyd becomes the fourth Liberty free agent to be retained, joining Rebecca Allen, Amanda Zahui B., and Nayo Raincock-Ekunwe. Restricted free agents Shavonte Zellous, Kia Vaughn, Marissa Coleman, and Epiphanny Prince have yet to be signed.

The Liberty will open their 2019 season on May 24 against the Indiana Fever.
