The New York Yankees optioned right fielder Clint Frazier to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Sunday after acquiring Edwin Encarnacion.
The New York Yankees have made a few roster moves in the last few days.
After acquiring Edwin Encarnacion from the Seattle Mariners via trade on Saturday, the Bombers optioned right fielder Clint Frazier to the minors. Frazier will now spend time and play for Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. The Yankees optioned Frazier on Sunday.
Encarnacion is set to join the team on Monday when they play the Tampa Bay Rays at 7:05 p.m. ET at Yankee Stadium.
Frazier hit .285 with 11 home runs and 34 RBIs in 52 games for the Yankees. When he found out about the news, Frazier was both disappointed and surprised.
“It’s a tough pill to swallow,” Frazier said, per Ken Davidoff of the New York Post. “It’s never fun, especially with how much I felt like I contributed to this team this year.”
Despite the roster move, Frazier did play well for the Yankees, who currently lead the AL East division. Bombers manager Aaron Boone believes Frazier will contribute to the team again, even though he’ll be in the minors for the time being.
“He’s played a big role on a winning team, and that doesn’t necessarily stop now,” Boone said. “This is where we’re at from a roster situation. So obviously tough news to deliver, but hopefully he can make the most of it and continue to get better at his craft. Know that he’s going to play a role for us again.”
Frazier will now do what he can to get back to the majors as quickly as possible. He definitely feels he deserves to play a role for a big league team.
The Yankees, however, will host the Rays in the first of what’ll be a 10-game homestand for the Bombers. This three-game series against the Rays will be huge, as the Yankees only lead them by .5 games in the division.
