New York Jets quarterback Sam Darnold is throwing dimes, especially to Quincy Enunwa and Robby Anderson, at OTAs on Thursday.

Look at the kid go. Young Sam Darnold is throwing dimes at New York Jets OTAs.

Among the strikes thrown by the kid who’s draped in the newly-branded Gotham Green helmet involved weapons Quincy Enunwa and Robby Anderson.

First, Darnold hits his top possession receiver in stride on a corner. Next, he drills Anderson on his favorite, most feared route, the nine.

Of course, these are OTAs, as basic as it can possibly get. Perhaps more than throwing against air is the idea that Darnold looks nice in the new uniforms.

Darnold, 21, is entering his sophomore NFL campaign. As a rookie, he threw for 2,865 yards and 17 touchdowns to 15 interceptions on a 57.7 completion percentage in 13 games.

Head coach Adam Gase, whose tag (in many circles) is one of the many NFL’s quarterback whisperers, will immediately look to improve that low completion percentage. His three-step, short-passing system will undoubtedly improve that specific mark in year two.

Darnold’s words revealed that transitioning to Gase’s system will be a process, via Randy Lange of the Jets official website.

“It’s been really fun to be able to learn a new offense and kind of understand what Coach Gase wants to do, how aggressive he wants to be,” Darnold said. “But we’re making sure we take a step back and realize it’s not going to be perfect day one or day two or day three. This week it was definitely a process. That’s the word I would use to describe it and it’s going to be throughout OTAs and this little minicamp. But we understand that as an offense. We’ve just got to be able to stack good days on top of good days and see what happens.”

It also doesn’t hurt to employ Le’Veon Bell and Jamison Crowder, adding to the already solid group of weaponry both Darnold and Gase has to play with this season.

The main issue, of course, remains the offensive line. Kelechi Osemele is the newest O-line hope, but at 30 years of age entering training camp and often injured, the former Oakland Raiders hog isn’t a sure thing. All eyes will also be on center Jonotthan Harrison whose importance cannot be understated.

With football fans craving New York Jets football and a glimpse at the new uniforms, the good news is Sam Darnold is already throwing dimes.
