A childhood friend of Kevin Durant’s is echoing the same sentiment as many New York Knicks fans: KD can solidify his legacy in New York.
Everyone has an opinion about Kevin Durant’s impending free agency. It’s easily the most hyped free agency since LeBron James’ move to the Miami Heat in 2010. New York Knicks fans are hoping that Durant’s childhood friend NaVorro Bowman is right.
The former NFL linebacker grew up in the DC area with Durant and he believes KD needs to go to New York to solidify his legacy.
“It’s New York City, man,’’ Bowman said to Marc Berman of the New York Post. “It’s the Big Apple. I think it’s a place where Kevin needs to go to solidify Kevin Durant. I hate to say it, but LeBron (James), he’s a got a way about the people. His legacy is huge right now.
“Kevin’s right there. I don’t see who’s ahead of who. But if he goes to New York and does what I know he’s capable of, he’ll go down as one of the best to ever play the game.”
Durant is probably the best player on the planet right now—LeBron James included. That being said, he still isn’t close to eclipsing James’ legacy. Durant could have three titles and three NBA Finals MVPs heading into free agency. However, he still may feel like he has something to prove after winning those titles with the juggernaut Warriors.
Going to New York and winning a championship—even with another superstar in tow—would solidify Durant’s legacy among the all-time greats.
Moreover, he would be a forever legend in New York. If he were to win a championship for the Knicks, they might put up a statue of him before he’s even done playing.
We are still a long way off from free agency and a lot can change, but it’s clear that the Knicks are a viable option for Durant to solidify his legacy.
