With the NHL All-Star Game set to take place in San Jose on Jan. 26, people have been wondering what the players will be wearing. It turns out the jerseys are like nothing the NHL has ever seen before.
For the first time ever, the NHL will be rolling out jerseys made from upcycled material.
Upcycling is the process of transforming by-products, waste materials or unwanted products and making them useful again by turning them into new materials.
In this case, All-Star jerseys.

The eco-friendly jerseys are not a single-team effort. The NHL and Adidas partnered with Parley, a company dedicated to raising awareness and stopping the destruction of oceans.
The design for all 31 teams is essentially the same; they all have a crest and the same striping. Even jersey designs that seem to be untouchable by the league, like the New York Rangers’ classic wordmark, has been removed in favor of the Blueshirts crest for the once-a-year occasion.

Another new aspect is that, yes, it appears that all teams will have a “home and away.” At this time, it is not known who will be wearing what and when.
For the weekend, every team will be adding black, white and what appears to be similar to a heather grey. Sorry, New York Islanders fans, you can’t escape black just yet. But don’t worry, this one is for a good cause and will only be worn once.

And for New Jersey Devils fans, let’s hope management (finally) takes notes and considers black as a third jersey. Seriously, all you have to do is take a scroll through Twitter and see that Devils fans are already excited about this.

The black and white definitely looks better for some teams than others. That said, it’s a sleek look and for a one-off jersey, it isn’t bad at all. At this time it is also unspecified if these are going to be used for just the skills competition, just the All-Star Game or both.
