Jeremy Brodeur, the son of Martin Brodeur, will be playing for the New York Rangers in the Traverse City Tournament on Friday in Michigan.
Goaltender Jeremy Brodeur has been invited to play with the New York Rangers squad in Traverse City, Michigan, on a tryout, which begins action on Friday.
It must be great when your dad is a three-time Stanley Cup Champion goaltender. It’s probably more overwhelming when that champion is former New York Rangers rival Martin Brodeur, one of the greatest goaltenders of all-time.

This will be Brodeur’s third time playing in the Traverse City Tournament, as he played with the Columbus Blue Jackets in 2016 and with the Dallas Stars in 2017. The young goalie spoke about his previous experience in Traverse City to Newsday’s Colin Stephenson:
“The year before I played really well; last year I only played one game. This year, hopefully, I can showcase what I can do to everyone there, just to prove that I can be competitive at the level everyone’s at here.’’
The 21-year-old goaltender played last winter for the Allen (Texas) Americans of the ECHL, where he went 15-13-4, with a 3.15 goals-against average and .917 save percentage. Following three years at Shattuck-St. Mary’s School in Minnesota, where he was a teammate of Rangers defenseman Ryan Lindgren, Brodeur went to play in the OHL for the Oshawa Generals where he was the backup goalie when the team that won the Memorial Cup in 2015.
Though he became the number one goalie the next year and compiled a record of 70–40-10 over two seasons, he was never drafted by an NHL team.
The Rangers depth at the goalie position makes him a long shot to make the team, but Brodeur hopes to get in a few of the games in Traverse City with the hope that an NHL team will see him play and give him a legitimate chance to make a team.
The Rangers first game will be on Friday night at 7 p.m. against Minnesota. The game will be lived stream by the Detroit Redwings.
